The water, dust, and cloth physics are also top-notch, but the lighting is just on a whole other level.

Seeing the sunlight pouring through the windows in The Hunter's workshop or using the flashlight to illuminate the dark hallways of the abandoned hospital adds so much to the atmosphere. I've written before about how impressive the lighting effects in Little Nightmares 2 are, but it bears repeating due to just how effective it is. There's clothing left lying in the streets as if people were snatched right out of their shoes. The rundown school has deathtraps set up everywhere. It's filled with meat that's been sitting out too long and taxidermied humans that are propped up to look like they're having a nice family dinner. The house at the beginning looks like the Baker House from Resident Evil 7. Every place you reach has these weird details in the background that hint towards something sinister that's happened in the past or is about to happen right now. Thankfully, Little Nightmares 2 has phenomenal environments. Instead, everything is done through environmental storytelling. There's nary a hint of dialogue or exposition.

My expectations for Little Nightmares 2 were already high, so I didn’t think it would go beyond that.That doesn't sound like much of a story, but the Little Nightmares series doesn't do straightforward narratives. This game was really good and exceeded my expectations. The game controls are easy once you get the hang of it. For me, I usually play on XBOX, so the PlayStation controls needed to be familiarized. The game controls aren’t too complicated if you are familiar with PlayStation controls. In my case, I played on the PlayStation 4. However, there were a few glitches here and there but didn’t cause the game to not move forward.Ĭontrols – 8: Little Nightmares 2 and their controls are different, depending on the platform you are playing on. But Little Nightmares 2 gave a lot of tiny details, like the attributes and outfits of the characters, the atmosphere transitions from fog to rain to clear, and the placements of the lighting were at its best places to make the areas feel creepy. It’s a little hard to compare much since the game is in a different setting from the first game.
Graphics – 8: The graphics did improve from the first game. It’s a game that gives a story that can have many different theories about it. However, these details also remain mysterious, allowing gamers and viewers to create theories. You play more to find out what’s going on and what situations are there. It’s just the same as Little Nightmares 2. Storyline – 9: In Little Nightmares, as mentioned before, you don’t have any concept of the story unless you progress more into the game. Because you play as a smaller character, a lot of the objects are a lot bigger than your “average” size, so being able to see large buildings and items are great to see in this game. Being a 2D-ish and 3D-sh game, the background of the game looks amazing. It just makes you feel that something dark is there. Even in the game, you don’t see the sun at all. Little Nightmares 2 is also in a new setting, and of course, it’s not all bright and happy. Unlike the first game, we can find and unlock hats throughout the playthrough that you can switch to at any time during the game. You equip a stick or an ax and you go and attack. New things were also added into the game – such as having an AI as a teammate for most of the game, interactions with the AI, a bit of voice acting, and improved combat skills.Īnother new feature is the introduction of combat, which is simple. The graphics of this second game have improved slightly, they are now clearer and crisper, and also have improved darker details. And like the first game, it’s a matter of moving forward to have more understanding about the situation. In Little Nightmares 2, we play as a new character alongside the main character from the first game, who is an AI companion that you can interact with. With the first game exceeding expectations, we can expect higher expectations for the second game. It has been about three years since the first Little Nightmares game was made, now Little Nightmares 2 has come out with new characters, new bosses, and new secrets, yet still keeping the same creepy aura and vibe of the original franchise.
